Checking your Visa vignette
To ensure a smooth transition upon your arrival in the UK, it's crucial to verify the details on your visa vignette (the visa sticker in your passport) and UKVI decision letter. These details typically correspond with the information printed on your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card, which you'll collect upon arrival in the UK. Here's what to check:
- Name and date of birth: Ensure they match your passport and other identification documents.
- Correct visa route: Verify that you've been granted the visa category you applied for.
- Start and end dates: Confirm that the visa's validity period aligns with your intended stay.
- Work conditions: Check that any work restrictions or conditions specified on your visa are accurate.
If you identify any errors on your visa vignette or decision letter, it's essential to request corrections before traveling to the UK, following the guidelines outlined by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). You can find more information on how to correct errors on your visa on the UKVI website.
Arriving in the UK
Upon your arrival in the UK, you'll go through immigration and customs control, also known as Border control. you will need to know:
- Present your identity document, such as your passport, and your visa if applicable, to Border officials.
- Be prepared to explain the purpose of your travel to the UK. It's advisable to mention that you're arriving to work. Carrying a copy of your employer's Sponsorship letter in your hand luggage can help confirm your employment purpose.
- Ensure you travel to the UK within the validity period of your 90-day entry visa (if applicable), unless special permission has been granted.
- Upon arrival, it's important to request a date stamp on your 90-day entry visa vignette from an immigration official. This stamp serves as evidence of your entry into the UK and is necessary for completing your Right to Work check.
Following these steps will facilitate a smooth entry into the UK and ensure you have the required documentation to commence your work.
Collecting your BRP card
If you require a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), this document provides as your visa and contains essential information, including:
- Your full name
- Date of birth
- Start and end dates of your visa
- Working conditions associated with your visa
You'll need to collect your BRP from a designated Post Office within ten days of arriving in the UK. The address of the designated Post Office will be provided in your visa decision letter or, in some cases, in your visa application. To collect your BRP, you must present both your 90-day entry visa vignette and your UKVI BRP decision letter.
Upon receiving your BRP, it's recommended to make copies of both the front and back of the card. We advise emailing these copies to yourself to ensure they are safely stored.
When collecting your BRP, carefully review all details to ensure accuracy. If you encounter any issues with your BRP upon collection, it's important to report them within ten days to avoid complications. Failure to report issues promptly may require you to apply for and pay for a replacement BRP.
